PSR Policy and Capability Advisor

If so, we would like you to become part of a small outgoing team within the New Zealand Security Intelligence Service (NZSIS) that is making a tangible contribution to lifting the protective security capability of New Zealand.   

As a member of our PSR Team, you will communicate complex ideas in a clear and concise way to Ministers, senior managers, and practitioners. You will analyse a range of information to inform decision making and you will drive the development and delivery of PSR policies and protocols.     

This will require you to foster relationships and manage internal and external stakeholder relationships.  

You will have the following profile:

  • Ability to communicate effectively (written and orally) to a wide range of audiences, including Ministers
  • Capability to lead projects and manage a large number of tasks to achieve an overall outcome
  • Can demonstrate a sound level of critical thinking, policy analysis, and evaluation
  • An awareness of, and interest in, current affairs and issues that affect New Zealand on a domestic and international level.
  • An understanding of New Zealand Government processes.
  • Well developed presentation skills.
  • Ability to work independently and delivery a range of tasks in a timely and effective manner
  • Highly engaged, proactive and action-orientated to deliver successful outcomes
  • Ability to work well with a range of stakeholders from diverse backgrounds

You may already have knowledge or experience working within the security sector but this is not a necessity, as your proven ability to think critically and communicate effectively will stand you in good stead.

Computer Network Defence (CND) Analysts

We are looking for people to join us as Computer Network Defence (CND) Analysts. Whether you’re early in your career, or an industry expert, we want to hear from you.

We are defending New Zealand from the most serious and sophisticated cyber-actors out there. Our foreign adversaries are often well-resourced, highly skilled, and good at hiding in plain sight. We are constantly working to understand these adversaries and develop new techniques to uncover their actions and defeat them.

Working in a high performing team of cyber security professionals, you will be striving to understand and counter sophisticated cyber borne threats against New Zealand’s information infrastructures of significance. You will be working with exciting technologies to solve interesting analytical and technical problems using unique datasets that you wouldn’t have the opportunity to do anywhere else.

First and foremost, we are seeking candidates that are knowledgeable and passionate about information technology with a strong desire to learn and specialise in Computer Network Defence. In addition we are looking for candidates with:

  • Expertise or interest in learning network and host intrusion detection and discovery techniques
  • Relevant technical qualifications or certifications in fields such as, Information Security, Computer Science, Information Technology, and Data Science
  • Knowledge of vulnerabilities, exploits and mitigation techniques
  • A willingness to try new things, be innovative and push the boundaries of traditional CND approaches
  • A desire to work in a highly collaborative team environment
  • Programming / scripting experience

We have an opportunity for a VISA Screening Analyst to join our team within the NZSIS Intelligence Directorate. In this role you will engage in national security screening, including analysing, evaluating and making recommendations, for a range of people already in New Zealand, or for those seeking to enter New Zealand.

Technical Delivery Manager

IT Security Certification Assessor

We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced IT security practitioner who wants to make a real and direct difference to the protection of NZ – is this you? 

Our IT Security Certification Assessor is responsible for conducting IT security assessments, audits and applying security risk management practices. 

Your experience and technical expertise in this field, will ideally be supported by one of the relevant qualifications we are looking for, along with proven knowledge and application of the risk management and IT guidelines. Key to succeeding in this role is your: 

  • previous experience in large scale and complex IT systems design, implementation and maintenance when assessing systems against government standards to ensure compliance. 
  • ability to successfully interact with a wide range of people at all levels of the NZIC and externally
  • excellent planning and organisational skills as well as strong analytical  and problem-solving skills

The IT Security Certification Assessor will become the certification subject matter expert of our successful team and be able to provide expert guidance and advice on certification matters to colleagues.
